My Favorite Tossed Green Salad Recipe

This tossed green salad recipe is constantly making an appearance on my Italian family's table. It's really simple, and the ingredients are crispy and delicious and can't be topped!

It's one of those easy salad recipes you're bound to create over and over again!

We never use just one type of lettuce or greens.

Mixing it up with several types is good visually as well as healthfully.

If you like, you can add more than the two in the ingredients, too.

This recipe serves 4-5 people.

Salad Ingredients

  • 2 hearts romaine lettuce, rinsed and chopped
  • 4-5 leaves red leaf lettuce, rinsed and chopped
  • 2 small plum tomatoes, diced
  • 1 small cucumber, peeled and sliced
  • 1 large carrot, peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 2-3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • salt and black pepper, to taste
  • pinch of dried oregano

In a large bowl, combine the lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes and carrots. You can choose to premix the dressing or dress the salad in the bowl.

Either way, combine the oil and vinegar, mix in the salt, pepper and oregano and toss away!

Serve this colorful salad as an appetizer, refreshing side dish, or the backdrop of a main course topped with chicken, salmon, or steak.

Some fresh crusty bread or focaccia goes perfectly with this fresh salad recipe!
