Coffee Granita & Lemon Ice Recipe
This lemon ice recipe- or as the Italians refer to it, granita di limone, is a popular frozen treat in Italy.
Along with lemon, coffee is one of the most widely seen flavors. This page provides recipes for both versions, choose your favorite or try both!Serves 4-5
Lemon Version Ingredients 2 cups waterzest of 1 lemonjuice of 2 large lemons1/2 cup granulated sugar
Coffee Version
Ingredients
2 cups water
1 cup strong espresso, cooled
1/2 cup granulated sugar
whipped cream (optional)
Heat the water and sugar together in a small saucepan over low heat until the sugar dissolves. Bring the liquid to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool. Combine lemon juice and zest (or coffee) with the sugar syrup. Poor into a shallow container (like a pie dish) and freeze until solid. To loosen, place the bottom of the container in a pool of shallow hot water for a few seconds. Turn it upside down onto a cutting board and chop into large pieces. Place the pieces into a food processor or blender (I love my KitchenAid 7-Cup Food Processor with Mini Bowl ) and mix until chopped into small chunks. Spoon into serving glasses or pour back into a container and freeze until it is time to be served. Allow to thaw slightly before serving. Top the coffee granita with whipped cream, and garnish the lemon version with a strip of lemon peel. Buon appetito!
