Quick Pizza Dough Recipe

pizza dough, easy pizza dough, quick pizza dough recipe, raw dough

This quick pizza dough recipe can be completed from start to finish in about 7-10 minutes (depending on how nimble you are at kneading). It's an easy pizza dough base that is great for those last-minute-dinner kind of nights. And it's really good, so that makes it even greater! Make it with your choice of white or whole wheat flour.

Makes 1 medium pizza dough.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil of your choice (vegetable or canola is fine)

Ok, first fill a measuring cup with 1 cup warm water. Pour the yeast into the water and mix thoroughly with a fork until it is completely dissolved.

In a medium sized bowl, combine the 2 1/2 cups of flour with the salt, sugar and oil. Reserve 1/4 cup of the flour for after you have added the water.

Pour the yeasty (yeah, I know that's not a word) water over the flour and begin to mix briskly with a fork or spoon. It should start to come together pretty quickly and get pretty gooey. This is the point when you may decide to forgo the utensil and get your hands dirty.

When all of the flour is mixed in you might notice that your dough is still pretty sticky. Add a little bit of the extra flour a small handful at a time until it is no longer sticking too terribly to your hands. Then form a ball and let the dough rest for 5 minutes.

That's right. 5 minutes. (Sometimes I cheat and start shaping it at 4 minutes but trust me you wanna wait the whole 5 minutes).

While you've got all this time on your hands, you can prepare your pizza pan by greasing it liberally with cooking spray, oil or butter.

When the time is up, coat your hands in flour and plop it on the pan. Firmly start pushing down on the dough, kneading it to the desired thickness. To make a perfect circle I like to rotate my pan as I'm pushing the dough down and out.

And as Porky Pig might say - th-th-tha-tha-that's all folks!

Top this quick pizza dough recipe with your desired toppings, cheese and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Then pat yourself on the back and toss out that pizzeria menu taped to your fridge - you're playing with the pros now!
